This week on #LFCRadio we are going to talk about the power of a strong marriage.
Depending on what TV shows you spend your spare time watching, you might think shows like, Basketball Wives or The Real Housewives of Atlanta represent what relationships look like. These shows that are full of more failed relationships than…well, in spite of their names, marriages.
In TV land, somehow gone are the Cosby’s and in are more characters and shows about the drama that ensues from relationships, that in many cases were never marriages and were never going to be marriages because there are many who feel it is a failed institution. The industry is preying on that perception. There is an increasingly dangerous narrative, that marriage is not what it once was. Marriage is not needed. Living with someone, having kids together, sharing your long-term dreams and aspirations with someone who has the option to walk away is the new “marriage.”
Well the reality is there are more failures than successes with those types of relationships. All while defending this type of relationship has become more popular to take in public, there are a ton of lonely men and women longing for the security that a strong committed relationship provides. They are regretting the fact that, despite having beautiful children as a result of these relationships, they wish they didn’t have to look in to those children’s eyes and respond to the questions of, “Why isn’t daddy around?” “Why can’t you and mommy get along.” They wish they could work out their differences between them, instead of down at the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
