Wendy Williams Rumored To Lose Endorsement Deals Over Comments about HBCU’s and NAACP

Wendy Williams Rumored To Lose Endorsement Deals Over Comments about HBCU’s and NAACP

So as we continue to teach our clients the power of the media, both in broadcast and socially, television personality, Wendy Williams has found herself in hot water because of comments she mad about two institutions of the black community. Historically Black colleges and the NAACP. She questioned the value of both and has received major criticism from the black community, including TV One Host/Commentator Roland Martin.
The often irascible Williams seems to have back peddled a bit following her comments and has actually invited Martin on her show to discuss the matter. We’ll see how that goes tomorrow. What are we to learn from this incident:

  • In Today’s climate brands responding immediately. So should you.
  • Social media and a TV personality’s sponsors are much more powerful than their egos.

Whether you are on TV daily, in a pulpit on Sunday or work in a drive thru, we all have a brand. Lets continue to be mindful of it in our day to day lives.

Kaepernick Puts Principles Before Profit

Kaepernick Puts Principles Before Profit

The Former Super Bowl Quarterback may be putting his career on the line

Photo Credit: LA TimesMany have said that Colin Kaepernick has disrespected the USA and the NFL. Others have said, he’s putting principles before profit. According to many reports, Colin Kaepernick was good enough to be an elite QB just 2 years ago but now he isn’t good enough for the San Fransisco 49’ers or possibly the NFL. I can’t say that I’m surprised.I’ve watched the NFL for most of my life. It has evolved into America’s favorite past time through clever marketing, brand strategy and the best TV deals ever negotiated. By becoming “America’s” favorite pastime, comes an expected unbridled loyalty. Fortunately, many of us are becoming “#MoreWoke” daily.Unlike any other popular sport and especially the NBA, what matters more is the logo on the side of the helmet instead of the name on the back of the jersey. The only players who are “allowed” to have a “face” and a marketable name without criticism are generally star QB’s. Everyone else is supposed to just be thankful for the privilege of sacrificing their minds and bodies for the game. So that’s a big reason why this public display by Kaep is soliciting this visceral response.Honestly, for some reason the average American considers football their escape. This protest presents too much reality during the 6 month political vacation we call football season. As unbelievable as it may sound, many equate the role of a football player to the sacrifices of our service members. It is not. That’s probably why its expected for football players to be loyal to the league and “America” regardless of personal politics. I’m here to say, there is a big difference. Most football players will be done playing by the age of 25. Clearly, they have more life to live past their years on the football field. Kaepernick knows this and chose to stand up anyway.

What he is saying is articulated everyday by many but is largely ignored by mainstream America. Using his current platform, the Super Bowl QB is bringing attention to something that America is no longer allowed to ignore without opposition. This may cost him his football career, but at this moment, the 28 year old sees his principles as more important than his sponsorships deals. This should be respected not a cause for vilification. The more we become a truly inclusive nation, the less total assimilation will be required to be a true “American”. The rest of America might as well get used to it.A very POWERFUL piece from @DrJasonJohnson on the deep,
racist history of the Star Spangled
Banner. https://t.co/2WuVMOTYTc

Question of the Day: Why Aren’t My Followers Responding to My Posts!!!

Question of the Day: Why Aren’t My Followers Responding to My Posts!!!

Have you been asking yourself the question, “Why Aren’t My Followers Responding to My Posts!!!”? Have you ever wondered, why despite having hundreds or maybe thousands of followers on Facebook, your response is so low. Well according to this Facebook for Business post, there are two key reasons:

  1. The first reason involves a simple fact: More and more content is being created and shared every day.
  2. The second reason involves how News Feed works. Rather than showing people all possible content, News Feed is designed to show each person on Facebook the content that’s most relevant to them

Quite simply, there is so much content on Facebook, that we would be drowning in content every time we checked our news feed with mostly content we don’t care about if they showed you everything. So if you want to know when your favorite band is coming to town, and want it to show up on your feed, you may want to visit their page and now and again. Facebook will reward you.The other not so obvious reason is, despite all the rumors that Facebook will someday charge us for access, they won’t because they make a ton of money from selling ads. If you want to promote your site, brand or event, your going to have to buy ads on Facebook in order to achieve that. We can help you accomplish that. Send us an email so we can show you how to create better ads on your Facebook page so you can reach your goals.
Follow us on Facebook and give us your feedback. What kind of struggles are you having? We’d love to hear from you.

#LFCRadio Classic: Are You Down With The “Swirl?”

This is a classic #TBT #BlogTalkRadio episode of Life Full Circle Radio. The swirling fireworks start at around the 30 minute mark…enjoy and share.

Originally Published Feb. 1, 2012

Are You Down With the Swirl? This week on Life Full Circle Radio we are going to dig into the topic of interracial dating. Now for all the hyper sensitive folks who got upset strictly off of the name of this blog, wait until the show.

We will have Christelyn Karazin, creator of the website Beyond Black White. Christelyn is a sister from Cali that happened to find her love in a white dude. With that, of course she has gone through scrutiny from her peers. But it doesn’t seem to matter much and to a growing number of black women. You should visit her site and read some the comments that these women have to say about the brothers.

We will also have Champ from VerySmartBorthas.com. If you have read their blog, you know that they have a very funny and insightful position on an array of topics including this one.
Also be sure to opt in to receive our blogs, white papers and podcasts from me first via email. Subscribe today!

if you are down with the “swirl” or not, you don’t want to miss this show! It will be one for records books!

Life Full Circle Podcast: Author, Activist and Artist Joseph Mathews

On this episode of Life Full Circle Radio, we’ll talk to author (Things I Wish My Teacher Knew About Me: Memoir of a Disengaged Student) and activist, Joseph Mathews.

As we’ve watched the riots in cities like Baltimore, Dallas and now Charlotte, many have asked the question, why isn’t Tulsa rioting like other cities hurt by these incidents of police homicides in Black America? Brother Joseph Mathews wrote a blog a couple of years ago about being silently Black In America. He’s from Oklahoma and addressed it better than most. Here’s a quote from the blog.

As I now share time between DC and NYC and stand in solidarity with those who march in the fight for justice, I also stand with my brethren in middle and rural America who are not yet able to stand publicly. I stand with those who have no one around willing to march with them, with those who see the injustices ravaging their communities but have no recourse. I stand with those who live in states like mine where your votes for progress means very little as you are heavily outnumbered. I stand with those who see the rallies on TV like I did as a kid but feel so distant and invisible.” Read more here
ownload the episode below. We recorded this episode in the midst of a tumultous week that included the killings of two more black men (#TerenceCrutcher and #KeithLamontScott) at the hands of law enforcment.
